XDI.org announced today that several XDI.org-Accredited I-Brokers are consolidating operations. =you and 2idi (a retailer of EZiBroker) are both merging their i-name customer bases into 1id.com. LinkSafe, another retailer of EZiBroker, is merging its customer base into @fullXRI.

In all cases the account transfers will take place automatically and do not require customers to take any action. Customers will receive an email from their new i-broker with instructions on how to access their account. No change in login credentials is expected, nor is any interruption in services. The transfers are expected to be completed by early April.

Said Bill Washburn, Chairman of the XDI.org Board of Trustees, “To a large extent this consolidation of i-brokers reflects the contraction the global economy is experiencing as as a whole. Smaller i-brokers are finding it more efficient to combine their operations with those that offer full i-broker platforms. The result will be leaner but stronger XRI infrastructure as we head into the third generation of XRI specifications coming from OASIS.”

Any questions about the account transfer process can be directed either to a customer’s original i-broker or to the i-broker receiving the transferred account.

June 20, 2008: XDI.org announced the addition of another accredited i-broker. @fullXRI is accepting top-level i-name and i-number registrations beginning immediately.

@fullXRI is the commercial counterpart to the popular @freeXRI site, where Internet users have been able try free i-names and i-name services for the past year. Originated as an experimental service to demonstrate capabilities of the open source OpenXRI project, @freeXRI has evolved into a versatile platform showcasing many XRI features.

OASIS announced that it will hold a one-hour webinar on XRI 2.0 on Tuesday, May 6, from 11AM-noon Eastern Time. Titled, "What do OpenID, the Higgins Project, i-names, and XDI (XRI Data Interchange) all have in common?", this free webinar is open to OASIS members and the public. It will cover the XRI 2.0 digital identifier specifications and XRDS discovery format from the OASIS XRI (Extensible Resource Identifier) TC. Topics include:

• Why distributed directories, digital identity frameworks, ontologies, reputation systems, and other emerging Web technologies need abstract structured identifiers.


• The problems XRI and XRDS solved for OpenID Authentication 2.0.


• How XRI syntax combines the best features of URNs (Uniform Resource Names) and HFNs (Human-Friendly Names).


• How XRIs are backwards-compatible with URIs (Uniform Resource Identifiers) and IRIs (Internationalized Resource Identifiers).


• How XRDS documents are rapidly becoming the defacto service discovery format for user-centric identity and data portability.
