XDI.org announced today that final preparations for the opening of the XRI Global Registry Services (GRS) have been completed. The GRS will open at 7PM EDT (23:00 GMT) on Tuesday, June 20th, in a live ceremony at the Berkman Identity Mashup conference at MIT Media Lab.
Preparations including preloading of 5,548 global personal i-names (=names) registered during the XDI.org Early Global Services (EGS) beta test program, which began at Digital ID World in October 2004. 825 global business i-names (@names) were also preloaded, including both those registered by communities participating in the EGS program as well as those registered in the original XNS registry (a predecessor to XRI).
In addition the www.inames.net website was updated with the full list of participating i-brokers. New pages were also added detailing i-name formats and the key differences between i-names and domain names/email addresses.
The global XRI proxy resolution network (http://xri.net) was also switched over to the live authoritative servers. Starting at 23:00 GMT on June 20th all global XRIs registered with the GRS will be resolvable via both HTTP and HTTPS within minutes of their registration.
