This page is a short summary of the Early Global Services (EGS) Program offered by Identity Commons in concert with XDI.ORG, Cordance, and 2idi. It also serves as a guide to the other legal documents governing this program (see section 2 - Related Legal Documents below.)
1. The EGS Program
The EGS program is an early opportunity for a limited number of individuals and organizations to obtain the global i-names of their choice while supporting the development of shared Internet identity infrastructure.
Beyond the costs of administration, the proceeds from the EGS program will be used by Identity Commons and XDI.ORG to develop the open source software and shared infrastructure needed to provide services to i-name holders. This form of community-based financing helps assures that this infrastructure will be freely and openly available to all Internet users and not beholden to any commercial interest.
1.1. Basic Terms for Individuals
During the 90-day term of the EGS program, up to 150,000 individuals shall have the opportunity to register a global personal i-name ("=name") and a corresponding global personal i-number for a 50-year term for one-time fee of $25 USD. The costs of maintaining the i-name and i-number registration over this period will be absorbed by Identity Commons, XDI.ORG, Cordance, and their affiliates.
1.2. Basic Terms for Organizations
Organizations may also register a global organizational i-name ("@name") and a corresponding global organizational i-number for a 1-year term for a nominal fee if they agree to participate in the EGS program in one of several ways, including co-marketing the EGS program, making a bulk purchase of i-names, or implementing support for i-name single sign-on (ISSO). 1.3. Account Fees and I-Name Portability
The EGS registration fee includes one year of free i-name account hosting at 2idi, the i-broker for the EGS program. 2idi expects to continue offering basic i-name account and contract page services at little or no cost. Because global i-names are portable, you will always have the right to move your global i-name registration to any another XDI.ORG-registered i-broker, ensuring that there is a competitive market for i-name services.
1.4. Method of Payment
You may pay for an EGS registration using any major credit card accepted by Identity Commons and 2idi. Your credit card statement will identify the charge as "IDENTITY COMMONS INC Customer Receipt/Purchase Confirmation".
1.5. Renewal Terms
At the conclusion of their initial registration period, all EGS registrants may renew their registrations on the terms and rates then available from i-brokers who serve as global i-name registrars.
1.6. Periodic Confirmation of 50-Year Registrations
XDI.ORG requires individuals registering a 50-year global personal i-name to confirm their desire to keep their i-name at reasonable intervals (currently, every 5 years.) Such requirement shall apply without discrimination to all EGS global personal i-name registrants, and all XDI.ORG-registered i-brokers shall be required to give these registrants ample notice and opportunity to confirm their registration.
1.7. Conversion of XNS Name Registrations
A final provision of the EGS program is to enable registrants of XNS personal names in the XNS name registry offered by the original XNS Public Trust Organization (XNSORG) to convert into global personal i-name registrations.
